Thefuntheory.com is a website dedicated to the idea that fun can change peoples behaviour for the better.

Whether it is turning a staircase into a working piano to encourage people to use the stairs instead of the escalator, or making a bottle bank into an arcade game, all around the world people are coming up with inventive ways of making drab activities fun.

There are all sorts of ideas posted encouraging people to be creative in improving day to day life.

One person suggested putting a small windmill on top of a car that feeds back energy to the engine, thereby saving fuel.  Another suggested making a vending machine into a can recycler that gives out drinks when enough empties are put back in. If it's fun it's on there.
