Brighton Peace and Environment Centre

Miscellaneous

Congratulations - we are now a charity

We would like to share our exciting news with you that we now have Charity Status. After a long process of discussion and consideration which has spanned nearly a decade we now join the likes of friends of the Earth and Greenpeace as a registered charity (#1125002). We are both excited about the opportunities that will bring and also the part that you can play in helping us to develop for the future. If you would like to be a part of our future you can become a member and  feed in your views for our development at both the AGm and through email contact. Alternatively if you would like to donate a celebratory amount to see us on our way then please do so. read more

Hello from Aisha

So much has happened since I joined Brighton Peace and Environment Centre that I feel I have always been amongst you. Before I introduce myself, more importantly I want to say I am committed for BPEC to be a Centre which brings together and therefore strengthens peace and environment groups in Brighton. I believe together we’re strong, divided we’re weak. My other equally important objective is to expand our education programme to more schools, educators and community members to inform and inspire global citizenship.

In the beginning...

Mabel Pratt is one of BPEC’s founding members. She was interviewed for this special edition of the newsletter to tell us how it all came about.

Mabel has a long history of peace campaigning – she is a Quaker and has been a member of the Peace Pledge Union (PPU) and the Fellowship of Reconciliation “since the year dot”. At the age of 15 she sold the Peace News, the PPU’s publication, at Brighton Station. She remembers others from her class at school walking past with their noses in the air. However, her most successful place for selling the paper was on the seafront where she would offer it to people sitting in the shelters who couldn’t get away!
